DIY DENIM SKIRT ALTERATION

I've been dreaming of...

A really cute, not too short, denim skirt, preferably with buttons down the front. But to find one online that matched that criteria was just not happening. It's times like these that I wish I were a Dressmaker and had my very own factory to customize any article of clothing I want! Dreaming...

Anyway, so I went to the local thrift store, because I'm stylin' on a budget here, and I found many options to work with. I just so happened to find one with buttons!

Now I understand it is not love at first sight, perhaps a little old school, though it would have been fun to rock this maxi style with some boots and a chunky sweater.

But how about at second sight?

GAME PLAN:

I found a denim skirt (with buttons down the front, BONUS!) and the fact that this was a maxi skirt was even better because it gave me some length to work with.

I put the skirt on and marked it at the length I wanted (for my height/body type/etc.) leaving an inch or two to work with for the hem. (Remember it's always better to leave too much than too little of extra length/fabric -I've learned the hard way multiple times.)

Sewed me a hem, and voila!

And for all of my non-sewers out there! Try leaving a raw cut hem for an easy, tattered and frayed look.
